Response OneChapters 1-3

In a well written paragraph, tell me which character from the Outsiders you would like to be your friend. Use the BOOK with page numbers and paragraph numbers.

I would like to be Sodapop's friend because on page 2 Ponyboy said he's always happy a grinning and he'll never grow up at all. I also like how he said on page 2 that he is the only one that can smart off to Darrel and make him laugh without getting hit. Soda is also very caring for an example after Ponyboy got jumped on page 4 and 5 and Darry just came and shook him meaning no harm he just wanted to make sure that Ponyboy wasn't died and Ponyboy said he can get a little rough. Soda comes over here an gently picks him up and sees he bleeding so he pulls out a handkerchief and wiped the wounds away and while Ponyboy was trying to tell the story and started crying Soda comforted him and told him it was alright.

Hi Nina!! This is Gina...
I like your writing on how you would like to be Sodapop's friend because, I think you explained him very well, and you got to one point and stuck to it!

We all know that the fifth commandment is: Thou shall not kill. With that in mind, tell me what you would be feeling AND what you would do now if you were Johnny at the end of Chapter 4.

If I were Johnny I would feel terrible one because I killed someone
and two because he dragged a fourteen year old along with him because he had to run away.
But, I think that he shouldn’t have killed him but to save a friend that’s
that close to you like he’s your brother. Even though it’s totally wrong and immortal.
It was in ways self defense because he said that after they killed Ponyboy. Then, they were going to kill him to. Killing is wrong but not in self defense. Our religion states that killing is only okay when defending your self. For example if you have a gun and someone is shooting at you its not against the law or religion to
protect your self and shoot back.

Hi Nina, this is Gina,
I think youu might want to reread it because it doesn't quite make sense, but on the other hand I thought it was Gr8!!!! I totally agree with you when you say self defense well, because it truly was. I also agreed with you when you say that you can only kill if you are defending youself, or at a just war, so you had me always thinking about the subject you were writing about! :)

I remember talking about the self defense in religion and I thinks that it is great that you used somthing you learned in religion in reading. I dissagree wit you when you say Johnny probablies feels bad about dragging a 14 year old kid along with him because Johnny is like the little brother to everyone in the gang even Ponyboy even though Ponyboy is younger than Johnny. I think if anyone else murderded somone and dragged Johnny into it they would feel bad because he is like the little brother everyone else not the other way around.

B. Explain what Ponyboy finds out about Randy and the other Socs at the end of Chapter 7.

Ponyboy finds out that the socs are just people. They aren’t different they have more money and fancy cars but that’s the only difference. Ponyboy realizes that just like all greasers aren’t bad not all socs are bad and like to start fights. Ponyboy also realize that Darry loves him a lot and that he didn’t mean to hit him. He realizes that Darry was upset because he was worried and didn’t know if Ponyboy was okay.

A. When we get to know people better, we usually like them more. If that's true, what could we do if we really don't like someone?

I think we could be kind to them. If you really don’t like someone you could be very kind and talk with them more and find some common interests share you. Together you can bond and maybe become best friends. But, if you just go without being kind by not saying hi to them when you see them in the hall way that’s no a good way to start a friendship. And it would be easier to be kind to them because being me and hating people takes a lot of energy out of you and that’s less fun you can have with your family and friends.

Hi Nina,

These are good thoughts. I especially agree that being kind to others is a great way to get to know them. The result will just possibly be a new friend. Maybe not, but maybe! ~Mrs. Best
